 How to Have Your iPhone Read Text for You

Siri has always been the perfect assistant for every Apple user, using it to perform many tasks with ease. But did you know you can use Siri to read emails, articles, and other text on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac? It comes in handy when you're multitasking and need to understand what's on the screen, so here's how to ask Siri to read any text on your Apple device.

How to Ask Siri to Read Any Text to You on Your iPhone or iPad

1. Go to Settings.

2. Click Accessibility - Voice Content.


3. Now, you can make custom settings. Let's look at each option in detail:

  • Speak Selection: This allows you to select a piece of text and have Siri read it to you. Enabling Read Selection will display a Read button on top of the selected text.

  • Speak Screen: Enable this option to have Siri read everything on the screen. You can swipe from top to bottom with two fingers to hear the whole screen.
  • Voice Controller: Toggling on the voice screen will give you the voice controller option. When enabled, a square black icon will pop up. It provides quick access to Speak Screen and Touch to Speak. You can further customize long-press and double-tap actions.

  • Highlight content: Enabling this option lets you watch words as Siri speaks them. You can choose your preferred highlight style, highlight color, and highlight content (as shown in the image below). This feature comes in handy when you're viewing some documents on your iPhone.


  • Typing feedback: Enable this option to provide spoken feedback as you type. You can have Siri speak characters, words, autocorrect, or predict as you type.

Voices: Choose from different voices and languages ​​for narration.



  • Speech Rate: You can also adjust the narrative speed using the Speech Rate slider.
  • Pronunciation: If Siri mispronounces something, you can add the correct pronunciation here.
